Australian charged after baby placed in dryer
A 21-year-old Australian man has been arrested after police say he put his girlfriend's baby into a clothes dryer.
Det. Sr. Const. Deb Newman said the 14-month-old girl was left inside the machine for about two minutes. She suffered serious burns to both feet and her left hand, as well as bruises to her forehead and back. "The injuries are horrific,"Newman said. "In my years of being a police officer, I've not seen or heard of this type of injury before." The incident occurred last Thursday while Samuel Barnes-Siddall was babysitting the child at her home in Warwick while her mother was at the gym. Police allege that when the girl's clothing got wet, Barnes-Siddall placed her in the dryer, closed the door and turned it on. The child is now in hospital, Newman said. Barnes-Siddall was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was granted bail of $4,200 and ordered to reappear in court at the end of next month.
